The analysis of pollutants present in our water, air and soil has moved up the social and political agenda in the last few years. The major problem associated with colorimetric kits whether read by eye or a photometer is obtaining a relatively clear sample from whatever liquid, solid or semi-solid you are required to analyse. The applications which are listed alphabetically by parameter are specifically related to a particular matrix i.e. ‘lead in paints’ or ‘nitrates in fruit juices’ and will describe how to treat the sample in order to obtain a reliable result by a photometric method. The Sentinel benchtop wastewater treatment unit is new to the environmental range. Made by WMEC in conjunction with Zeneca Plc, the Sentinel is designed to take dilute aqueous waste from the laboratory or any other small-scale industrial or environmental process and by means of flocculation and filtration concentrate, the waste products in a removable cartridge while allowing the liquid to pass through for direct disposal to the drain. It is ideal for small volumes of waste where disposal costs would be prohibitively expensive. Not suitable for concentrated waste products. Companies who use or would like to use VWR International COD tubes can have them collected by us or one of our registered waste couriers.
